Often the most overlooked component of a gamefishing set-up is the fishing line on the reels. Your line is the fragile yet vital link that connects you to your fish. It's also one of the cheapest parts of the whole system, yet it's very rarely given much thought. To be able to maximise your tackle, the line must be checked and changed regularly to ensure its full strength.

If you're dusting off your tackle from last season and can't recall which outfit caught what, or how much work each line had endured, you're best to replace them all. At the very least, strip several hundred metres off each reel and replace it with a fresh topshot.
